What is Compressed Air?

Compressed air is air that is kept at a consistent pressure, usually at a pressure higher than normal atmospheric pressure.

Compressed air is a huge part of all of our lives, in fact our lungs perform the function of our very own internal compressed air system. From blowing up balloons as a child, letting go and watching it zoom away, to putting air into your car tyres at the service station, compressed air is used all around us.

The air itself is made up of approximately 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen, and also contains small amounts of other gases such as carbon dioxide, neon, and hydrogen. When air is compressed, these ingredients don’t change, just the amount of space the molecules take up changes.

Compressed air is used across an enormous range of applications such as manufacturing, food processing, building, automotive, and packaging.
